Self Acceptance is the Base of Your Self Esteem

If you don't accept yourself, no one will.

Self acceptance is the first thing that I think we should all understand. If you don't believe in accepting yourself, why work on making yourself better?

It's like fixing up a car you don't like or going shopping for a home gym but you hate lifting weights.

With that said, let's start our journey of developing a healthy self esteem by learning how self acceptance can be a big part of it. First, I want to let you know that I have personally struggled with this myself and found once I accepted myself, it made it so much easier to better myself.

I lost all the stress of trying to be someone I am not.

I don't want to give you the impression that I woke up everyday totally hiding who I really was. In fact I am a pretty open person, but it was being totally comfortable with who I was on a whole, that was hard for me.

If you felt this way at least once in your life, you know what I am talking about. Accepting how you look:

Body Image is a biggie. People spend hours on a treadmill or develop eating disorders because they are just not happy with the way their bodies look.

I am all for fitness, but trying to change the way you look because you do not like yourself, rather than trying to better your appearance is a fool's errand.

You will never be satisfied with the way you look and whatever satisfaction you gain will be fickle and weak. Easily broken down by someone's off comment or not getting complimented. But if you start with a solid center, a firm acceptance and understanding of oneself, your work on improving your fitness will be that much more fulfilling. That is more important than shallow outward appearances alone.

You will gain confidence faster and this firm confidence will shine through. It will be noticed, thus affecting every part of your life. A calm will come over you.

Take pride in how you look right now.

Don't listen to what corporations say you should look like. You are beautiful just the way you are. I know what you are thinking, "easier said than done." But it's not hard at all.

An easy way to start is, stop caring so much about what people think about you. Especially people you don't know well.

Caring too much about what people think about you is a waste of time. What people think of you doesn't matter. We give all this power to people that don't deserve it.

People like to judge other people because they aren't comfortable with themselves.

The only person that truly matters is the one staring back at you in mirror. That is what you should understand about self acceptance. Accepting how you think:

Many people think they are weird in some way. Not letting people know who they really are. Self acceptance is about understanding that we are all different. We will not all like and do the same things. If you like heavy metal or classical, both are are OK. If you are an adult and still watch Pokemon cartoons that's cool too. You like what you like, that is all that matters.

It doesn't matter what kind of clothes you like to wear, what kind of music you like to listen to or what kind of food you like to eat. It's no one's business but yours. You don't have to feel bad because other people don't understand you.

Don't give away your power so easily. I say do what you like to do and enjoy it. We only have one life to live. You are completely unique and wonderful. Own your life, it is yours after all.
